Ireland-based Mainstream Renewable Power has purchased a portfolio of wind farm projects in Illinois with the potential to generate 787 MW by 2013. The portfolio, acquired from Illinois wind farm developers Bruce and Joyce Papiech of FPC Services, comprises three separate projects at various stages of development within 100 miles of Chicago. Construction on the first project, the 120 MW Shady Oaks project in Lee County, is due to commence in 2010. The three projects will require an estimated $1.69 billion US for completion. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Earlier, Mainstream Renewable Power had entered a JV deal with Alberta Wind Energy Corp. for the development of Canadian wind projects. (Source: PR Newswire, June 15, 2009)
