The newly formed, Long Island-New York Offshore Wind Collaborative involving the Long Island Power Authority, Con Edison, New York Power Authority and others, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to determine the level of interest in developing an offshore wind project to be located approximately 13 miles off the south shore of Rockaway Peninsula. “We will continue to explore the feasibility of an offshore wind project,” said Con Edison CEO, Kevin Burke. “If the technical, environmental, economic and social challenges can be met, and we have the support of government, energy and environmental leaders, I am confident this project will be built and produce enormous benefits for our region.” The deadline for submissions is August 3 1, 2009, with expressions of intent to respond requested by August 17, 2009.
