Computer manufacturers that want to sport the Energy Star label will now have to meet new specifications of version 5.0, which will require IT manufacturers to deliver significant efficiency improvements over the 4.0 models. The most significant requirement to the 5.0 model is a reduction in energy consumption by 30% to 60%. The US EPA estimates the new standard could deliver annual energy cost savings of $2 billion if all PCs sold comply with the specifications. (Source: Environmental Expert, July 6, 2009)
